Kelemen Hunor draws attention to the one-time payment for pensioners who receive less than 3,000 lei: “If the state does not find 1,000 lei per year, you are in error”

The president of UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, said on Wednesday, February 25, that there is a proposal for a one-off payment for pensioners in 2026, similar to the one made in 2025, intended for those with pensions of up to 3,000 lei. He points out that “this payment must be made, because it is precisely those people who are the most vulnerable”.

I know of only one project, one proposal that I made, Grindeanu made it too – a one-off payment for pensioners in 2026 up to 3,000 lei or those who are under 3,000 lei. A one-off payment, as it was in 2025.

When it is done, in the first half of the year, the second half of the year, I don't know. It is not an extraordinarily large amount, but this payment must be made, because it is precisely those people who are most vulnerable.

If you think that for pensioners, for people who have monthly incomes below 3,000 lei, the Romanian state does not find 1,000 lei once a year, then you are wrong”, said Kelemen Hunor at the Parliament.

Previously, the Minister of Labor, Florin Manole, explained how the social solidarity package works, which would support almost 3 million pensioners and over 220,000 families in difficulty.

Mr. President of the Social Democratic Party, Sorin Grindeanu, said that this pack is a touchstone. And he is right. It's a moment when things will be cut”the minister declared on Antena 3 CNN.

For pensioners, the Government proposes a mechanism already used in previous years, with payments granted before Easter and before Christmas. Pensioners with pensions of up to 1,500 lei would receive 1,000 lei, in two equal installments of 500 lei each. Those with pensions between 1,500 and 2,000 lei would receive 800 lei, and pensioners with incomes between 2,000 and 3,000 lei would benefit from 600 lei, also in two installments.

“It is about 2.8 million pensioners and a budget impact of 2.3 billion lei“, stated Florin Manole.

According to the minister, PSD's logic is for the package to be adopted before the budget law, so that the funds are caught in time. “I sent this package to the Ministry of Finance. There is empathy, but the sources of funding must also be found. I understand everyone's role”declared Manole.
