A KGB pensioner was scammed out of 60 million rubles by scammers who pretended to be his colleagues from the FSB.
Yuri Ivanovich Yarovenko has been in the state security agencies since August 1967 – there he was involved in internal security and counterintelligence, and at the top of his career he received the position of head of the 3rd department of the 3rd Main Directorate of the KGB of the USSR.
However, in his old age, the seasoned KGB officer gave up. They managed to convince the 79-year-old counterintelligence officer that it was necessary to recalculate his pension; he did not refuse “colleagues in the FSB” and “employees of the Pension Fund.”
Yarovenko met several times with collection couriers, to whom he handed over packages with his savings. In total, the scammers got 60 million rubles. Only in early autumn did the pensioner realize that he was being led by the nose and contact the police.
A case of fraud on an especially large scale has been opened.
