A salvaged car was “swallowed” by a pit in the center of Galati. The authorities intervened urgently with a tractor to remove the truck and signaled the area for the safety of other road users.

The images were shot on Brăilei street corner with Aleea Schoolii. The driver of the recovery truck stated that he suddenly felt the vehicle begin to sink.
The surprise appeared right in the center of Galati, near several commercial spaces and blocks of flats.
Authorities used a tractor-trailer to extricate the truck.

Later, the mayor of the municipality, Ionuț Pucheanu, explained on his Facebook page how the pits appear in the asphalt. According to him, the asphalt in the city is affected by ice and the snow removal operation.
“I know the traffic problems very well because I drive on the same streets as every driver and pedestrian. Potholes appear when water infiltrates, freezes and increases its volume, then thaws, leaving voids in the asphalt. Cars and buses press on these already weakened areas, and the cracks grow larger. In addition, the salt used for snow removal accelerates the degradation of the asphalt. It is a common phenomenon in all cities, and in Galati it is added soft ground and normal road wear“, the mayor explained.
The mayor emphasized that the authorities periodically intervene for repairs, but the work cannot be done in conditions of rain or negative temperatures. “There have always been and will be such situations, but we always intervene for the safety of citizens”Pucheanu also transmitted.
