The Kremlin accuses France and Britain of planning to “clandestinely” supply nuclear weapons to Ukraine

Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) on Tuesday issued serious accusations against France and Britain, claiming that the two states are working to secretly supply nuclear weapons and cruise missiles to Ukraine. According to the SVR, this action represents a flagrant violation of the international norms regarding nuclear non-proliferation, notes the EFE agency, quoted by Agerpres.

“The French and British political elites are unwilling to accept defeat and consider it necessary to provide Ukraine with a 'miracle weapon'”, it is stated in a press release of the Russian spy service. SVR claims that the reason would be that Ukraine “they could hope to obtain more favorable terms for ending the war if they had atomic bombs or at least a so-called dirty bomb, that is, a conventional weapon with radioactive elements.”
According to the SVR, France and Great Britain are said to be actively working on methods of clandestine transfer of the necessary components, equipment and technologies. The Russian service even mentions the possibility of using the French TN-75 nuclear bomb, commonly used on the M51.1 submarine-launched ballistic missile.
“Because the French and British are aware that such an operation is a serious violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and endangers the entire global non-proliferation system, they aim to make it appear that equipping Kiev with nuclear weapons was carried out by the Ukrainians themselves”SVR also states. The statement states that Germany refused to participate in this “dangerous adventure”.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the situation at his daily press conference: “Without a doubt, this information is extremely important from the perspective of the threat posed by the violation of the nuclear non-proliferation regime, especially in the context of the armed conflict in Europe. This is a flagrant violation of all norms and principles of international law, and we will certainly take this information into account in the ongoing peace negotiations.”
Russia's reactions come amid rising tensions in Eastern Europe and international diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine, while Paris and London have yet to make official statements regarding the Kremlin's accusations.
