Reductions in local taxes and charges, increased significantly from 1 January 2026, will be reintroduced by the government for homes over 50 years old. There will also be a 50% tax break on first home and first car for “severely and severely disabled”. The decisions were taken on Monday by the leaders of the governing Coalition.

The government announced that the Coalition leaders agreed in Monday's meeting to introduce tax reductions for old houses, as follows:

  • a) The tax reduction rate for buildings older than 100 years – this will be 25%
  • b) The reduction rate intended for the tax on buildings between 50 and 100 years – this will be 15%.

There will also be a 50% tax break on first home and first car for “severely and severely disabled people”.

“Persons with severe disabilities will benefit from a 50% discount, and people with severe disabilities will benefit from a 25% discount, but with the introduction of value ceilings”, announced the Government.

At the same time, the Ministry of Finance was mandated to draft the law so that adjustments could be made for those who have already paid.
