“The recommendation is not to participate.” Scandal between Radu Miruță and PSD Gorj after the USR minister called the county mayors to a meeting

Radu Miruță from the USR, deputy prime minister and minister of defense, invited the mayors of Gorj to a meeting “to put the problems of the people” on the table and accused the local PSD branch of telling the social-democratic mayors not to accept the invitation. In response, the social democrats accused him of “demagoguery” and mocked the results obtained by USR Gorj in the 2024 elections.

Miruță, who is also a deputy for Gorj, published on Facebook a photo with a message from a group of mayors attributed to the PSD and in which the mayors are told that “following the discussions with the president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, and the president of the CJ Gorj, Cosmin Popescu, the recommendation is not to participate” in the meeting with the deputy prime minister of USR, because the PSD also has a deputy prime minister and “all the problems of the county have been communicated to him”.

“All the county's problems are communicated so well that this county is left eating the ground. And, what can you see, it is led by the same party that gives assurances that all the problems are solved. That's how some people think they retain their power. But power obtained by force, without results, is a dead end,” said Radu Miruță in the post accompanying the photo.

He claims that there are mayors from Gorj “of all political colors” who “still call him for specific problems”.

“As deputy prime minister, I consider it my duty to take over some of these problems of the localities and to open one door at a time, to unblock one barrier at a time, often only bureaucratic. Together with other colleagues from the government, from the coalition, regardless of the party”, added Radu Miruță.

The minister told the mayors that “the world judges politicians by their ability to solve the problems of communities, more than by their political color”.

“It is possible without blind political ambition; it is also possible with common sense, with openness, with word and respect. For the people, not for party leaders. Gorju needs unity, not ambitions. Challenge the leaders to compete who has better projects, not who wants to block everything just because he has no initiative”, declared USR deputy from Gorj Radu Miruță.

PSD Gorj accuses Miruță of “demagoguery”: “There is no room for solutions”

The social-democratic organization from the county told Radu Miruță that “desperation and misinformation do not belong in projects, not even when it comes to a minister”.

PSD Gorj says that “the results obtained by USR Gorj in the 2024 elections speak for themselves: 0 (ZERO) mayors, 0 (ZERO) county and municipal councilors and only one parliamentary mandate”, that of Miruță.

“Hence, perhaps, his desire to call the representatives of other parties to the meetings he organizes, because he does not like to hear his echo in the halls with USR members. For him, the electoral campaign started much too early and he is using the political position he occupies in the Government to promote himself”, the branch declared, on Saturday, in a post on Facebook.

PSD Gorj accused the deputy prime minister of USR that “he is only now getting to know the needs of the mayors and the problems of the county and he desperately wants to prove to the heads of the center that he has adhesion among the mayors of Gorj, although the election results contradict him”.

“It is the height of irony to invite to discussions the mayors who were totally ignored by your party when the fate of this county was being decided, and a proof of ignorance to talk about projects without understanding that all the projects (many of which have already been completed) at the level of the Gorj localities were the result of the work of the PSD Gorj team,” the statement added.
