After two episodes of heavy snowfall, many sidewalks and streets in Bucharest are buried in snow. The City Hall of the Capital, led by Ciprian Ciucu, says that there are problems with snow removal in sectors 1, 2, 3 and 5 and sanctions are imminent for sanitation companies.

“The central area and the Old Center are the calling cards of the Capital! Here come tourists, delegates, but also Bucharest residents, who go out to the theater, to a restaurant. And they have to make it through the snow and through the formed puddles,” the Capital City Hall wrote on Facebook on Sunday.

According to it, the Bucharest Local Police asked the sanitation companies from “sectors 1, 3 and 5 “to treat the snow removal seriously, which should be done according to the book”:

  • “over the full width of the traffic lane, up to the curb and clear the ditch. It was found that the first traffic lane leaves it covered;
  • to clean at pedestrian crossings on the entire width of the zebra, not to make paths;
  • clear the STB stations of the entire width of the waiting area;
  • to clear the sidewalks of their entire width;
  • rainwater drains should not be covered by snow”.

The Capital City Hall says that the same must be done in the neighborhoods and that so far problems have been found in sectors 1, 2, 3 and 5.

“If they do not comply, the operators, contracted by the sector municipalities to remove snow, will be sanctioned again”, adds the Municipality.
