King Charles III opened London Fashion Week on Thursday, participating with a smile on his face at the presentation of designer Tolu Coker, despite the arrest a few hours earlier of his brother, Prince Andrew, in connection with the Epstein scandal, France Presse and Agerpres report.

Upon arrival, Charles III greeted the approximately several hundred people gathered in front of the building in central London, where the presentations will take place until Monday.

He did not answer journalists' questions about the arrest of former Prince Andrew, suspected of “misconduct in the performance of official duties.”

British fashion and the royal family

As originally planned, the King visited an exhibition about British fashion and met with students supported by his organisation, the King's Foundation. He then attended the presentation of the British-Nigerian designer Tolu Coker, seated between the designer Stella McCartney and the director of the British Fashion Council, Laura Weir.

Tolu Coker, who launched his brand in 2018, is one of the rising stars of British fashion, his creations combining elegance and modernity, craftsmanship and innovative technology.

London Fashion Week, known as a hotbed for young talent, kicked off with an emotional midday show that paid tribute to one of its historical figures, Paul Costelloe, who died in November aged 80.

This Irish designer, who dressed Princess Diana, presented his collections in London for about 40 years. His son, William, who succeeded him as creative director in January, presented very feminine, elegant silhouettes in discreet tones.

Designers Harris Reed, Richard Quinn, Simone Rocha and the inevitable Burberry: after New York and before Milan and Paris, dozens of shows are scheduled until Monday evening in London.

Princess Kate's favorite London brands will also present their collections, such as Emilia Wickstead, Edeline Lee and Erdem.
