Sasinan Chuenlosang, 31, returned to Bangkok from vacation and felt unwell. At the hospital she was diagnosed with tonsillitis and prescribed Ceftriaxone. After several appointments, the patient became worse – her eyes turned red, her throat was swollen, and weakness appeared. The doctors told me to continue taking the antibiotic.
Three days later, the model-programmer was covered in blisters, she lost vision in her right eye, and her legs stopped moving. At the hospital, she was put into a medically induced coma, in which Chuenlosang remained for just over a week. During this time, doctors studied the patient’s case and diagnosed: Ceftriaxone was to blame for everything. Which gave a side effect.
