According to her, temperatures will rise significantly, and maximums may reach 14 degrees.

Meteorologists issued a new severe weather warning on Friday, with snow, blizzard and new layer of snow in Bucharest and 16 other counties, valid until Sunday morning.

Blizzard and negative highs through Sunday

“Until Sunday, as long as the general meteorological alerts, both the yellow code and the meteorological information, will be in force, we are talking about winter phenomena, wind intensifications, quantitatively significant precipitation, ice, sleet, snow, blizzard and snow cover for extensive areas in the south-south-eastern part of the country”, said Elena Mateescu.

According to her, gusts of 50-60 km/h are expected from Friday afternoon until Saturday evening. From Friday night into Saturday, the precipitation will be quantitatively significant and will gradually turn into snow.

“The weather will be cold, especially in the northern half of Moldova, where today the highs will be negative. Even the highs in the next few days will also be quite low,” explained the head of the ANM.

ANM issued a yellow snow and blizzard code for the Capital and 16 counties that came into force on Friday, February 20, at 12:00 and will be valid until Sunday, February 22, at 10:00. There will be a blizzard in the southeast of the country, and visibility may drop below 100 meters. The snow layer will be deposited unevenly, with thicknesses generally of 15-20 cm in the areas affected by the yellow code.

Temperatures up to 14 degrees next week

After this winter episode, the thermal regime will change.

“We expect spring to come, at least before March 1, from a meteorological point of view, as a result of the temperature regime, which, starting from February 23-24, will increase significantly,” said the head of the ANM.

Highs between 4 and 14 degrees are expected for February 24, and during the next week the values will continue to rise slightly. Between February 23 and March 2, in the western half of the country, the temperatures will be warmer than usual for this period, according to the head of the ANM.

“At the maximum level, for example, for the day of February 24, we count on values between 4 and 14°, so that they register slightly increasing values during the next week. The week of February 23 – March 2, in the western half of the country, the temperature values will characterize warmer weather than usual”, announced Elena Mateescu.
