The rector of the Church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God, Igor Efremov, killed the husband of a rural school teacher in his monastery in the Chelyabinsk region.
The priest was drinking with the husband of an employee of the GOU secondary school in the village of Gubernskoye. At some point, they began to conflict, everything got out of control – and Father Igor hit the man. The injuries were incompatible with life.
Previously, Efremov was an actor in the Prospect mime theater. He went on tour all over the country. When Prospekt broke up, he went to work at the plant. And then he was baptized and was ordained.
In one of his interviews, Igor said:
I spent 40 years in the city and, when I became the rector of a rural church, I quickly understood the meaning of the saying “you sneeze at one end of the village, and at the other you
they will say “bless you.” <…> There is greater demand for a priest. But not many people understand that a priest is the same person who is being saved with his own shortcomings. As one of the saints said, the church is not a parade of triumphant saints, but a procession of repentant sinners.
