The newspaper “Birobidzhan Star” reports that the Soviet Jewish poet Perets Markish has completed a new play called “The Ovadis Family” (12+). The action of this play takes place in the Jewish Autonomous Region.

“The main theme of the play is Soviet patriotism, the fiery love of Soviet youth for the socialist homeland. The play tells how a brother replaces a brother who heroically died guarding the Soviet borders in a battle with the Japanese-Manchus. Against this background, the poet paints people building the Jewish Autonomous Region, proletarian internationalism, and a new way of life.”

It also tells us that the climatic conditions of the Jewish Autonomous Region are quite favorable for the growth of all kinds of vegetables and fruits. Only the lack of experienced gardeners and gardeners slows down the development of this area.

“To create its workforce, the regional agricultural institution is organizing seven-month courses for gardeners and vegetable growers at the regional nursery. 30 collective farmers will attend the courses, one person from each collective farm in the region. The courses begin on March 1.”

The newspaper “Birobidzhanskaya Zvezda” informs its readers that the construction of a small oil mill under the Pishcheprom artel has been completed, which will work on local raw materials, namely pine nuts.

“In the Soviet Union, this will be the second plant producing cedar oil. Now the plant is in the start-up period. Tests have shown good results, the mechanisms work well, the yield of oil from nuts reaches 12%, and they promise to increase it to 14%. This plant is currently designed to produce 20 tons of oil per year. But the prospects of the plant are enormous. We can already say with confidence that the plant, during normal operation, will be able to provide the region with 150 tons of high-quality fats annually. The artel faces a serious task – to provide the plant with raw materials. There is a lot of pine nuts in the region, you just need to prepare it. From production waste (cake), the artel plans to organize the production of halva.”
