On February 23, believers of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) begin Lent – this is the longest of the multi-day fasts, which lasts seven weeks, or 48 days. This is stated in a post on the OCU Facebook page.
The first six weeks of Great Lent are called Lent, and the seventh, the final week before Easter, is Holy Week. In 2026, Pentecost lasts from February 23 to April 3, and Holy Week lasts from April 6 to April 11.
Each of the six weeks of Pentecost has its own traditional name. Holy Week is dedicated to the events of the last days of the life of Jesus Christ. All seven days of the last week before Easter are considered the strictest in terms of restrictions.
On April 12, after the end of Lent, believers will celebrate Easter – a holiday that in the Christian tradition has a special meaning and symbolizes the end of Lent.
