A 47-year-old Romanian man was arrested in Italy after he tried to kidnap an 18-month-old girl who was holding hands with her mother at a shopping center in Via Corridoni, Bergamo. The whole moment was captured by a surveillance camera, Bergamo News reports.

The incident took place on Saturday, February 14, around 1 p.m., at the Esselunga shopping center on Via Corridoni.

In the captured images, it can be seen how a man in front of the supermarket suddenly grabs the child's legs, trying to separate her from her mother.

The woman managed to resist with force and shouted for help. Her father, who was with them, quickly intervened to stop the man. Several passers-by and security guards also intervened, managing to immobilize the attacker until the law enforcement arrived, notes Bergamo News.

The girl arrived at the hospital

The girl was taken to the Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital for medical investigations, which revealed that she had suffered a fractured femur caused by the violence used in the attempted kidnapping.

The man was taken to the police station, identified and arrested. According to the cited source, he is a 47-year-old Romanian citizen, homeless and without a criminal record.

He is charged with attempted kidnapping of a minor and child abuse. Following the completion of the investigation, the man was arrested and handed over to the judicial authorities.
