Trump has said he is seeking a diplomatic deal with Iran.
“It shouldn't take long – I mean it should happen quickly. They should come to an agreement very quickly,” the US President said.
He also noted that it would be “very traumatic” for Iran if no agreement was reached.
“Unless the Iran deal is very fair and very good, it will be a very difficult time for them,” Trump added.
He also commented on the meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the White House on February 11, at which they discussed resolving the situation with Iran, the head of the White House reported in Truth Social.
Trump called Netanyahu's conversation “very good” and said the Israeli leader “understands” his intentions.
Context
On January 28, Trump demanded that Iran come to the negotiating table to achieve a “fair and just agreement – without nuclear weapons.” On February 4, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed holding talks with the US delegation on February 6 in Oman. They took place in the capital Muscat.
Tehran wanted to discuss with Washington only nuclear issues, and not other topics, in particular the missile program, that are priorities for the United States and the countries of the Middle East, Axios noted.
In an interview published Feb. 4, Trump said Iranian officials were considering building a new nuclear facility in another part of the country but were warned by the United States that they would do “very bad things” to them.
On February 11, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian announced that Tehran is ready to open its nuclear facilities to “any inspection” to prove that the country does not seek to develop nuclear weapons.
