Nicușor Dan, about George Simion's lobbying in the USA: “It was not received by anyone in the United States”

President Nicușor Dan commented Thursday evening on the accusations that George Simion would have lobbied in the United States for Romania to be excluded from the Visa Waiver program. The head of state stated that he does not have additional information compared to what has appeared publicly, but he emphasized the lack of credibility of the AUR leader on the international level.

Asked about the statements of the businessman Dragoș Sprînceana, Nicușor Dan said that he had no new data, but drew attention to some recent episodes related to George Simion.
“I don't have more information than you have on this matter, but what is relevant is that the same Romanian politician thanked the United States 8-9 months ago for removing us from this program. And also that the same politician, with a large delegation, it was not received by anyone in the United States. This is relevant for the credibility these people have internationally”the president said.
Previously, Nicușor Dan had briefly stated that “it was not received by anyone in the United States”, appreciating that this fact says a lot about the international position of the AUR leader.
The accusations launched by Dragoș Sprînceana
Dragoș Sprînceana, a businessman established in the USA, who had been proposed by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu at the beginning of 2025 for the role of “special emissary” in the relationship between Romania and the United States, recently launched accusations related to the Visa Waiver program.
He claims that George Simion admitted to him that he lobbied in the US for Romania to be removed from the program, with the aim of obtaining electoral capital against the governing Coalition.
In response, AUR representatives conveyed that Dragoș Sprînceana's statements represent “personal opinions” and have no relation to reality.
