Over the past two years in Russia, the proportion of families who cannot afford to pay for some goods and services has increased, as follows from Rosstat’s Selective Observation of the Quality and Availability of Services.
Almost half of households cannot afford to take a vacation at least once a year. If in 2023 this was reported by 40.5%, then in 2025 – already 48.3%. The proportion of those who are unable to replace damaged furniture has also increased: 45.6% versus 40.6% two years earlier.
Respondents began to talk more often about other restrictions. Thus, the number of families who cannot afford to give gifts even once a year has increased (by 2 percentage points), have two pairs of good shoes per adult (by 1.4 percentage points) and eat meat or fish at least every other day (by 1.7 percentage points). At the same time, researchers note that the share of households with such problems does not exceed 12%.
Food quality ratings have also changed. In 2023, 70.7% of respondents called it good or very good, but in 2025 only 63.6% assessed their situation this way. The share of those who assess nutrition as satisfactory has increased over two years from 28.1% to 34.6%. The number of people with poor and very poor nutrition also increased, from 1.2% to 1.8%.
7.8% of households called their life situation difficult in 2025; in 2023, this was 6%. At the same time, more than 90% of Russian families in recent years do not consider their situation problematic.
