Shooting in Canada. 10 dead and many injured


The Royal Canadian Mounted Police reported that at approximately 1:20 p.m. local time (approximately 10:30 p.m. ET) they received a report of a shooting at Tumbler Ridge High School. Local residents were informed about the danger and the police entered the school premises.

The police found several dozen injured people and seven bodies on the school premises, including the body of the perpetrator of the shooting: “a woman in a dress with brown hair, who most likely died as a result of self-inflicted injuries,” wrote the police in a statement.

Another person died while being transported to hospital, and two other people were found dead in a house “in connection with the event,” federal police said Tuesday evening. Two people with serious and life-threatening injuries were transported to hospital by helicopter. 25 injured people are under medical care, their lives are not in danger.
Students, teachers and school employees (approximately one hundred people) were safely evacuated by the police. British Columbia Premier David Eby wrote on the X platform Tuesday evening, expressing condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, that the provincial government would provide assistance to the residents of Tumbler Ridge.
Media reported that schools in Tumbler Ridge would be closed for the rest of the week.
