Gdynia celebrates 100 years. Donald Tusk emphasizes the strategic role of the city

Gdynia, as the Prime Minister pointed out, is not only a symbol of Polish aspirations, but also proof of Poland's resurgent maritime power. He mentioned that the city, which in his youth was the pride of the entire country, is once again becoming synonymous with modernity and belonging to the community of Western values.
“Gdynia was a symbol of our ambitions and aspirations, belonging to the Western community, to modernity. Today it is becoming such a place again, a synonym for Polish aspirations, Polish ambitions.” – said Donald Tusk.

Modern frigates and defense cooperation
The Prime Minister visited the PGZ War Shipyard, where a program is being implemented to build three modern frigates – “Wicher”, “Burza” and “Huragan” – and a rescue ship as part of the Ratownik program. Tusk drew attention to the importance of cooperation with Scandinavian countries, including Sweden, under the Orka program regarding the purchase of submarines.
He emphasized that this cooperation is of key importance for the security of Poland, Europe and the functioning of NATO in the region. In his opinion, missions such as Baltic Sentry, aimed at protecting critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea, and the development of sea ports are proof of Poland's resurgent maritime strength.

Gdynia as a piece of the geopolitical puzzle
The Prime Minister emphasized that Gdynia plays a central role in the geopolitical project that combines economic, military and strategic issues. The city, which is part of the Baltic Sea port complex, gives Poland a real chance to dominate the Baltic Sea.
The Mayor of Gdynia, Aleksandra Kosiorek, emphasized that the city's 100th birthday is an opportunity to recall its importance for the country's security. She pointed out that, in addition to the commercial port, there is also a NATO port in Gdynia, which makes the city a key point in Poland's defense system.
“The activities of Gdynia and the city authorities in coordination with local government and government authorities at the highest level are extremely important” – said Kosiorek.
One hundred years of history and modernization
The decision to grant Gdynia city rights was made on February 10, 1926, exactly on the sixth anniversary of Poland's symbolic wedding with the sea. It was the beginning of a dynamic investment process that transformed a small town into a modern, modernist city.
PGZ Stocznia Wojenna, the oldest shipyard in Poland, operating since 1922, continues the tradition of the Naval Shipyard and Naval Port Workshops, which were established before World War II in Puck and then moved to Gdynia.
