19 Polish cities will receive money for investments from Swiss funds

The Steering Committee of the Polish-Swiss Urban Development Program recommended signing contracts for co-financing investments from funds from the Swiss-Polish Cooperation Program with 19 medium-sized cities – the Ministry of Funds announced on Wednesday. Cities will receive over PLN 1.4 billion.

As indicated in the ministry's announcement, funding from the Swiss-Polish Cooperation Program (SPPW) will be provided to the following cities:

  1. Chodzież,
  2. Ciechanów,
  3. Dębica,
  4. Gniezno,
  5. Grudziądz,
  6. Hajnówka,
  7. Hrubieszów,
  8. Jarosław,
  9. Jasło,
  10. Kędzierzyn-Koźle,
  11. Końskie,
  12. Kraśnik,
  13. Krosno,
  14. Ostrołęka,
  15. Siemianowice Śląskie,
  16. Słupsk,
  17. Starachowice,
  18. Tarnów,
  19. Włocławek.

It was noted that the committee's decision means the commencement of investments that in the coming years will contribute to the sustainable development of cities, strengthening their institutional potential and improving the living conditions of residents.

It's about financing comprehensive development projects; among others investments in vocational education, support for entrepreneurship, public transport, energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, water, sewage and waste management, environmental protection, health, social assistance, public safety and activities for groups at risk of exclusion.

More than PLN 1.4 billion is to be allocated to support selected cities from Swiss funds, of which 85 percent the amounts are the Swiss contribution. Financing for individual projects may exceed PLN 80 million.

SPPW, i.e. the so-called Swiss funds aim to reduce socio-economic differences in Poland and supporting the development of medium-sized cities at risk of marginalization, which are losing their socio-economic functions. The total pool of funds in the program is over PLN 1.7 billion, of which Switzerland granted Poland almost PLN 1.5 billion, and the remaining part is the national contribution. 87 percent of the pool of funds is allocated to the Polish-Swiss Urban Development Program, 11 percent. for the Scientific Research and Innovation Program, and 2 percent for Technical Support.
