“Extremely kind people, but…”

After 8 years in Bucharest, at CSM, center Elizabeth Omoregie (29 years old) will move to Budapest in the summer, going to play for Ferencvaros. “A step forward in every way,” she believes.
Omoregie has complex origins: she was born in Athens, her father is Nigerian, and her mother is from Bulgaria. In 2017, he obtained Slovenian citizenship and represents this national team in international matches.
Given this picture, what does he think of when he hears the word “home”? This is one of the questions that the Hungarians at Nemzeti Sport asked him.
“Home? Always where my family lives. Now, this place is Athens again, but it could also be on the other side of the world. From this point of view, I am flexible. My sister, for example, lives in Amsterdam, and I feel at home there. I have many memories and friends that connect me to Bulgaria, but without my loved ones it is not the same,” said Omoregie.
If we talk about my identity and personality, they are clearly European; the african traits show up more in my genetics. Speed and physical strength helped me a lot in sports.

Elizabeth also revealed that she wants to visit her father in Nigeria and on this occasion discover that branch of the family:
“I still haven't been able to visit my dad there, but I hope this year I will finally be able to. I've tried several times, last summer I wanted to fly to Nigeria with my younger sister, but she didn't get her visa in time, so we had to cancel the trip.
I would like to know this part of my family, to see where they come from. I don't want to differentiate between the two branches of the family. I have many relatives in Africa and although I have not met them in person, I know they are all proud of me. My father, of course, watches my matches; he prefers to watch the big tournaments than the Champions League”.
Elizabeth Omoregie revealed why she is leaving CSM for Ferencvaros: “A step forward in every way”
Questions about the decision to leave CSM for Ferencvaros could not be missing. How did Omoregie explain?
“Ever since last year I felt that I needed a new spark. Year after year I would go to the same gym and then come home to the same place. People were extremely kind, but I wanted to get out of my comfort zone again and challenge myself.
From the beginning of this season, I was almost certain that I would not extend the contract, but I still left a small chance to stay. Meanwhile, my manager was waiting for me to clearly decide what I wanted. Then, once the official matches started, I became sure that I wanted a change, to get out of my bubble and transfer to a better team.
The last few years have shown that the FTC is a better team; in every way, it is a step forward for me.
The FTC has contacted me in the past, but we never reached any concrete negotiations, and at the time I wasn't even interested in the possibility of a change.
I've been following FTC for a long time, as well as Jesper Jensen's work at his previous teams. I liked the direction he is taking and the way he thinks about the game. I think he will be able to bring out the best in me too. I love the fast game and want to take on as much responsibility as possible in the team. At CSM, I was already a “veteran”, while now I have to adapt and get into the rhythm of the new environment.
As a center, good communication is very important, as is finding a common language with everyone. In Romania, I've already gotten used to the fantastic atmosphere at handball matches and the knowledgeable supporters, who, if necessary, can also put pressure on the referees. I have already experienced as an opponent how difficult it is to play away from home against Ferencváros.
The Champions League game in February will be hugely important for both teams in terms of the final group standings, but I'm not afraid that the summer transfer will put extra pressure on me; I will manage to ignore this for the duration of the game.
It is clear from the outside that Ferencváros is developing nicely as a team, which is one of the reasons for my coming. FTC has already proven in past seasons that it can compete with the best teams. I think in the coming years, not only will we have a chance to reach the Final Four, but we will be able, rightly, to aspire to the final victory as well”, is the reasoning behind the transfer.
I'm not afraid to show my emotions, I'm not a robot, I have bad days too. At the same time, I like to live every success, to interact with the fans, to feel their presence. That's why I'm looking forward to playing in front of Ferencváros' passionate supporters.

“Cristina Neagu? A true friend”
Regarding the period in Bucharest, he admitted that it was difficult for him, at least at the beginning, to team up with one of the greatest handball players in history, Cristina Neagu. Why?
“In the beginning it was quite a challenge because she understood the game on a completely different level than the others and it was not easy to think like her. The desire to win was in her blood; it didn't matter if it was a warm-up game or an official match, she always wanted to win and she expected the same from her teammates.
He helped me a lot in training, and through countless exercises and matches we got to understand each other better and better, both on and off the field. She was aware that the team also needed my input to achieve results.
It was an honor for him to invite me to the grand gala organized on the occasion of his retirement and I was happy to be with him on that special day. I consider her a true friend, and our connection did not end with the end of her career; we still meet now,” explained Elizabeth.
Elizabeth Omoregie: “The last chance to reach the Champions League Final Four with CSM”
One regret of his years at CSM so far is that he failed to qualify for the Final Four of the Champions League. He will have one last chance this year, especially since the “tigresses” are doing great in the group.
“Many times we were very close to the Final Four, but it still didn't materialize. Several seasons were a real roller coaster, with ups and downs. We always had exceptional players, but in the crucial moments we failed to mobilize, we didn't show what we were really capable of.
That's why, although on paper we had an excellent team, we couldn't take the final step. This year, the motivation is extra because it's my last chance to reach the Final Four with the team”, said Omoregie.
