President Nicușor Dan announces that he received the invitation of the US president to participate in the first meeting of the Peace Council in Washington, on February 19, but he did not confirm Romania's participation.

The head of state welcomes the “efforts of the US Administration to promote peace”, but conditions the participation in the meeting on the outcome of the technical consultations.

He explained, on Sunday, on Facebook, that the Romanian authorities seek to clarify whether the provisions of the Council's Charter “can be revised or interpreted so that they are fully compatible with the international obligations already assumed by the Romanian state”.

“The decision regarding Romania's participation in the event on February 19 will be taken following discussions with the American partners regarding the format of the meeting with countries like Romania, which are not currently members of the Council, but wish to join under the terms of the revision of the Charter,” he added.
