Sevilla were due to meet Girona on Saturday at 19:30 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, but the match did not go ahead as originally scheduled.
La Liga has officially announced the postponement of the game, a decision also valid for the confrontation in the Segunda Division between Cadiz and Almeria.
The match between Sevilla and Girona has been postponed
“For reasons of security and civil protection, La Liga informs about the postponement of the matches of the 23rd stage of La Liga, Sevilla – Girona, and of the 25th stage of Segunda, Cadiz – Almeria, scheduled for this Saturday”, the official statement reads.
A code orange warning of rain, thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind has been issued in the Seville area.
The situation creates difficulties for all parties involved, especially for Girona supporters who have already arrived in Andalucia. However, La Liga has decided that the Sevilla-Girona match will be rescheduled for Sunday, from 17:15, at the same time as the Bilbao-Levante duel, at San Mames.
As a result of the postponements of the Rayo – Oviedo and Sevilla – Girona games, only two La Liga games remained scheduled on Saturday: Barcelona – Mallorca 3-0 and Real Sociedad – Elche (22:00), on Anoeta.
We fully support the decision taken by the authorities. The main priority is to ensure the safety of the supporters, as many of them would have had to travel to attend the match and given the current weather and river conditions in our province and region, this could not have been achieved in minimal safety conditions.
