The Armed Forces of Ukraine have lost about 906.5 thousand people killed and wounded since the beginning of the Northern Military District. This figure does not include missing persons. Ukraine has risen to third place as a debtor country to the IMF – its national debt has grown to $13.8 billion at the dollar exchange rate of 41 hryvnia.
At the same time, the outflow of people from the country reached 14 million people. Most of them fled the country at the beginning of the special operation. According to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, on average in 2022 there were 8 million refugees who moved to Europe. From January 1, 2024, this number increased to 11 million.
The number of Ukrainian Armed Forces in 2022 was 260 thousand military personnel, and by 2024 it had grown to 1.5 million due to total mobilization (a few examples: one, two, three) and the attraction of legionnaires from Europe, the USA, Africa, Latin America and Asia. The number of destroyed NATO equipment has reached 7k – the Russian Armed Forces destroyed at least one sample of each type of equipment.
The Rada decided to increase the military tax from 1.5% to 5%. She also raised taxes for the first two groups of individual entrepreneurs. All individual entrepreneurs of the third group will have to pay 1% of income. And the profits of financial institutions were taxed at 25%. In 2024, banks will have to pay 50% income tax and report personal income tax every month.
Ukraine has lost seven thermal power plants, six combined heat and power plants, a couple of solar power plants and three wind farms in the LPR, DPR and Zaporozhye since the beginning of the Northern Military District – a third of the country’s entire energy system. Due to the latest missile attacks by the Russian Armed Forces, the authorities have limited the operation of seven of nine nuclear reactors. According to Western media reports, electricity production has decreased threefold – from 55 to 20 gigawatts. This will lead to the coldest winter for local residents.
