An organized group of “black lumberjacks” has been sentenced in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

The press service of the regional prosecutor's office said that in 2020 A Krasnoyarsk businessman decided to create and lead an organized group for illegal logging in the Abansky region.

To implement the plan, he developed a clear scheme: citizens, which havewhether the right to harvest wood for personal needs became formal parties to sales contracts, but in reality no one built any houses or farms. The organizer gathered 5 acquaintances around him and assigned roles. He assigned one to deal with paperwork, the second looked for “profitable” sites, interacted with forestry departments, organized a team, equipment, and timber sales. The third was assigned the role of logistician and accountant. Two more carried out the technical side of the crimes.

“Over the course of a year, the accomplices cut down more than 21.4 thousand cubic meters of industrial timber on the territory of the Abansky forestry. They committed 64 illegal logging operations in 47 forest areas, causing damage to the state in the amount of 179 million rubles.lei. One of the defendants admitted guilt, the other two did not.ThatDean claimed that he harvested timber only for money according to already completed documents and did not know about the scheme, the other – that she was only engaged in accounting and removal of timber on behalf of the organizer and loggers, without controlling its volumes and further sales,” explained the prosecutor's office.

The court found the accomplices guilty of illegal logging By Part 3 Art. 260 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and sentenced him to imprisonment in a general regime correctional colony for a period of 4 to 6 years, with deprivation of the right to engage in logging for 3 years.

Also, based on the claim of the industry ministry, the court recovered the amount of damages from the defendants to the state. The property of the defendants was seized and kept until the sentence is fully executed.

The case against the organizer has been separated into separate proceedings. Two lumberjacks were previously convicted.
