On the night of March 28-29, 2026, clocks will be set forward one hour so that 03:00 will become 04:00, marking the switch to summer time. As a result of this change, including the most important games in the Superliga play-offs will benefit from more natural light, but some will start hours later, even 10:00 p.m.
After three months of winter, Romanians will switch to summer time again. Even if the length of the day does not increase significantly, after the switch to summer time, natural light is present longer in the afternoon and evening, and the nights seem shorter.
If at the beginning of February the sun sets around 17:30, by the end of March we will get to enjoy the light until almost 20:00.
In sports terms, these adjustments become immediately visible, especially in the Super League, where the scheduling of matches is closely related to weather conditions, audience and supporters' habits.
The switch to summer time brings brighter and longer evenings, creating friendlier conditions for sporting events held in the afternoon and evening.
Superliga matches will also start at 21:00
Football directly benefits from this context, because the atmosphere around the stadium starts earlier and lasts after the final whistle.
In this framework, the programming of the most important Superliga matches will be modified: they will start later. Depending on the importance of the parties and the temperatures in the thermometers, from March until the end of May, we will have matches starting at 21:00 or even 22:00, compared to 20:00 or 20:30 as it is now.
When does summer time change in Romania
According to specialists, summer time also influences the biological rhythm of footballers. Training, rest and match preparation adjust to longer days, and the start of matches at 21:00 allows better recovery after exertion, avoiding hours with high temperatures.
According to official data, Romania will switch to summer time 2026 in the last weekend of March. Thus, on the night of March 28 to 29, 2026, the clocks go forward by one hour: 03:00 becomes 04:00.
