In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a scam courier was detained who deceived an 87-year-old pensioner and stole 650 thousand rubles from her.

The police said that in mid-January, a resident of Minusinsk received a call on her landline from a stranger who introduced himself as an employee of the pension fund. He asked for her cell number.

“The next day a man called her and introduced himself as a law enforcement officer and said that yesterday scammers spoke to her, she provided them with her personal information and now she is suspected of financing the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Right now, scammers are trying to steal money from her bank account and she needs to immediately cash out all the money she has,” the police said.

The pensioner got scared and followed all the scammers’ instructions – she withdrew 450 thousand rubles from her bank account, and also took another 200 thousand that were kept at home. After this, another person contacted the pensioner, who also suffered from the actions of scammers. He received money from his grandmother, which he then handed over to the courier. Soon the elderly woman realized that she had become a victim of scammers and contacted the internal affairs authorities.

Based on this fact, a criminal case was opened under Part 3 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”. Employees of the criminal investigation department found out that a 17-year-old resident of the Novosibirsk region may be involved in the fraud. Investigators detained him in Novosibirsk.

The police also established that the young man was involved in another similar crime committed on the territory of Khakassia. The young man is currently in custody.
