In the Krasnoyarsk Territory for 5 the number of forest fires caused by people has decreased threefold over the years.
The press service of the regional Forest Fire Center said that in 2020 there were 433 such fires were registered, A in 2025 – 156. This result corresponds to the goals of the national project “Ecological well-being” and achieved thanks to an integrated approach, which combinationno large-scale technical modernization and systematic preventive work with the population.
“To increase the efficiency of fire fighting, we have updated our material and technical base: today specialists of the regional Forest Fire Center have at their disposal almost 2,500 units of modern machinery and equipment, 47 unmanned aerial vehicles and a video monitoring system of 170 cameras. At the same time, the staff was expanded by 600 specialists. We are also systematically expanding our aviation service area and opening new divisions in the north of the region. All this allows us to keep the situation under control and respond to threats as quickly as possible,” said Vitaly Prostakishin, director of the regional Forest Fire Center.
In addition to technical re-equipment, the region has built an effective system of preventive work with residents. Forestry specialists annually conduct hundreds of educational events: lectures, conversations, and field trips. Particular emphasis is placed on working with the younger generation.
“We try to place the main emphasis on children, in order to instill a caring attitude towards the forest from an early age. But you need to teach through play – then the children themselves are interested in receiving and applying knowledge,” said Natalya Gorskikh, head of the department for propaganda in the field of forest protection of the regional forestry center.
An example of such work was the environmental quest “Enter the Forest as a Friend,” which was held at the regional Forest Museum for fifth-grade students of Krasnoyarsk Lyceum No. 1. In a game format, schoolchildren studied rare species of flora and fauna, mastered the rules of making and extinguishing fires, and became familiar with firefighter protection equipment.
Currently, active preparations are underway for the upcoming fire season in the region. Particular attention is paid to the preparation of special equipment, as well as to the education and training of employees. In total, almost 2 thousand forest fire specialists will be involved in work to protect forests from fires this year.
