Sikorski will also meet with members of both political parties in Congress, local think-tanks, and will open an event at the Polish embassy commemorating the 280th anniversary of the birth of Tadeusz Kościuszko on the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the United States Declaration of Independence.
As the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in the United States told PAP, the Deputy Prime Minister will be in Washington from February 3 to 5. The main point of the visit is a meeting of the heads of foreign ministries of several dozen countries convened by Secretary of State Mark Rubio on critical minerals. It is to be devoted to cooperation to reduce the world's dependence on minerals extracted and processed by China. This includes: reaction to the announcement last year Beijing controls the export of these materials, which were suspended after concluding a trade agreement with the US. An agreement on this matter is to be signed during the meeting.
This is another initiative in this area; At the beginning of January, finance ministers from a number of countries from North America, Europe and Asia came to Washington for a similar purpose.
“This future-oriented and key context aims to ensure the security of supply chains and reduce dependencies, increase international cooperation in the area of research, innovation and knowledge sharing, as well as in the field of export restrictions from third countries. Without access to these raw materials, our industrial capabilities will be limited and the future is doubtful,” said the Embassy of the Republic of Poland.
