A British man had his butt cut off after being bitten by a swimming beetle – the same ones live in Russia. Because of the insect, the poor fellow became feverish, his skin turned purple and began to peel off, and his temperature rose to 40.
Simon English, 55, has worked as a firefighter all his life. On a recent fishing trip, a swimming beetle penetrated the back of his pants and bit into him. At home the man felt worse, and two days later he became ill. An ambulance was called.
The examination diagnosed necrotizing fasciitis. A disease in which the flesh is corroded, conditionally, as if exposed to sulfuric acid. Got it to the buttocks. It took four operations to remove dead skin, during one of which the heart even stopped. Fortunately, they resuscitated him. Now Simon can't sit or walk. And probably never will be able to.
For reference: swimming beetles live throughout Russia. They live in reservoirs, lakes, rivers, swamps, ponds and canals. There are about 300 species in the domestic fauna.
