American President Donald Trump spoke to journalists aboard Air Force One on Saturday about his idea to build a triumphal arch in the capital Washington, describing an impressive structure inspired by the famous monument in Paris, informs the DPA and Agerpres press agencies on Sunday.

The American president said that the planned structure would resemble the Arc de Triomphe in the French capital.

Such monuments are found in many places around the world, Donald Trump said, adding that he wants the one in Washington to be the largest.

“We are the largest and most powerful nation. I would like it to be the largest of them,” the US leader said, adding that a committee would be created to oversee the project.

The Arc de Triomphe would be the latest in a series of architectural projects through which President Donald Trump intends to leave his mark on Washington.

Currently, the construction of an opulent ballroom in the White House is underway, for which the old East Wing of the building was demolished, a measure that attracted criticism.

According to a report published by the Washington Post, the triumphal arch was supposed to reach a height of 76 meters.

The Arc de Triomphe in Paris, completed in 1836, is approximately 50 meters high.

“Trump Arch”

Architectural experts criticized the proposed height of the Washington Arch, the Washington Post noted, arguing that it would not match the surrounding buildings. At the same time, the article mentioned that some historians support the idea of building such a monument in the US capital.

President Trump did not provide a timeline for the project.

He first floated the idea of the bow last October. The US media has since nicknamed it “Trump's Arch”.

Last week, President Trump posted three different designs for the arch on his Truth Social platform, including one with lots of gold trim, a signature element of his style that is also found in the Oval Office, which he previously remodeled.
