Two thieves armed with hammers robbed a jewelery store in Richmond, west London, on Saturday morning as staff tried to fight them off. The entire moment was captured by witnesses in a video that went viral on social networks, reports the Daily Mail.
Footage captured by a witness shows two masked men hitting the window of the Gregory & Co family jeweler with a giant hammer. The bandits then remove the window and start filling their bag with all the exposed valuables.
Store employees can be seen desperately trying to retrieve what they can before the thieves can steal them.
Staff then start hitting the thieves with what appears to be a small box to try and dissuade them from taking any more goods – without much success. The thieves then flee the scene, under the shocked gaze of passers-by.
An employee who works at a nearby store and witnessed the incident told the Daily Mail how the thieves caused mayhem during their robbery on Saturday morning.
“The two guys came out of nowhere carrying a big sledgehammer and a bag. Then they started smashing the window of the jewelry store,” the witness said.
