Min. 3: Denmark – Germany 1-1. Balanced start, great atmosphere in Denmark
Start of the game in Herning!
Denmark is the Olympic champion and has won the last 4 world gold medals. Nikolaj Jacobsen's side are not doing as well in the continental competition. He won only twice, but with a different generation, in 2008 and 2012. In the previous edition, the Nordics were defeated in the final by France, after overtime, score 31-33.
And Germany also has two European titles in its record, in 2004 and 2016. Two years ago, on home soil, it only ranked 4th.
Denmark had no emotions in the semifinal against Iceland, victory 31-28, but more relaxed than the score shows. The hosts of the tournament, including the final will be in Herning, with 15,000 spectators in the stands, lost only one match, in the preliminary group, 29-32 against Portugal.
With the same score, 31-28, Germany also won the semi-final against Croatia. The big hop for the Germans was in the preliminary group, when they lost 27-30 against Serbia and trembled for qualification until the last round.
Denmark and Germany were also opponents in the main group, 31-26 triumph of the Nordics.
Gidsel, 5 goals away from another page of history
Sander Sagosen (30), currently at Aalborg, holds the record for most goals scored in one edition, 65, in 2020.

Mathias Gidsel, the star of Denmark and Fuchse Berlin, has already reached 61 in this tournament. He needs 5 more successes to make history.
In a final it's not just about handball. We have to stay united no matter how the match goes. Emotions will certainly be higher. I have not won any European as a coach. Only Rasmus Lauge did it among the handball players. That motivates us extra!
– Nikolaj Jacobsen, Denmark coach
We know we have to be better in attack than in the group game. And defensively we can do more. We have to be cynical in front of the goal, not to miss another 23 shots. I am delighted to have reached this stage. We took many steps forward, I hope we can prove today that we deserve the medal!
– Alfred Gislason, Germany coach
