A 68-year-old former officer is being investigated for sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl. The court rejected the preventive arrest and decided on house arrest

A former officer, aged 68, is being investigated by the prosecutors in Cluj-Napoca, after committing, at the end of last year, a sexual assault on a 17-year-old girl. The prosecutors requested the preventive arrest of the man, but the court decided to place him under house arrest.

The representatives of the Public Prosecutor's Office attached to the Cluj-Napoca District Court announced on Saturday that a man is being investigated for committing the crime of sexual assault on a minor.

“In the charge of the defendant, it was noted that, on 04.12.2025, approximately between 15:30 and 16:19, being on the upper floor of the residence located in the town of Gârbău, Cluj county, taking advantage of the position of authority held in relation to the victim, he committed, by coercion and making it impossible to defend himself or to express the will, acts of a sexual nature on the minor injured person, aged 17”, stated the representatives of the Public Prosecutor's Office attached to the Cluj-Napoca Court, according to the News.ro agency.

The prosecutors considered that the crime is one of particularly high gravity, “taking into account the fact that the defendant, a former senior officer, an educated person, aged 68, who did not have a pre-existing personal relationship with the minor, exploited the significant difference in age, social status and the position of authority he held to create a favorable framework for committing sexual aggression, meaning that the set of evidence administered outlines including the recourse by the author to psychological manipulation mechanisms specific to the grooming phenomenon”.

The man was detained for 24 hours, being presented to the court with a proposal for preventive arrest.

The Cluj-Napoca Court rejected this proposal and decided that the man should be placed under house arrest for 30 days.
