Cristian Tudor Popescu declared, on Thursday, that the PSD is the “big beneficiary” of the current situation, in which “it is in government and at the same time it allows itself to be in opposition”.

Asked on Thursday, on B1 TV, if a minority government can be a solution, given the PSD's constant criticism of the liberal prime minister, the journalist said: “The current situation is no longer a solution, because the big beneficiary is the party that achieved the lowest score in its history in the parliamentary elections and embarrassingly lost the presidential elections.”

“This party, at the moment, is in the government, there it feeds its clientele, including the mayors, because it is full of cheese, and at the same time it allows itself to be in opposition, it allows itself to insult and threaten Prime Minister Bolojan,” CTP continued.

He believes that “this situation is perfect for the PSD”, which is “growing in the polls”.

“Such a situation, in my opinion, can no longer continue. Mr. Bolojan's announcement, although he put a series of silences afterwards, that a minority government is also possible, in my opinion, is welcome. Because Mr. Bolojan no longer has to try to compromise with the PSD,” added Cristian Tudor Popescu.

“Nicusor Dan is quite close to PSD”

The journalist accused Nicușor Dan of not mediating between the parties in the coalition, although “for months we have been seeing these endless discussions” and “no progress is being made”.

“Mr. Bolojan is trying to find a solution, Mr. Nicușor Dan does not interfere. No mediation resulted, again, no progress in the relations between PSD and Mr. Bolojan, through the mediation that did not exist,” said CTP.

He claims that the president “Nicușor Dan is also quite close to PSD at the moment”: “With Mr. Bolojan, at least a little. I haven't seen him explicitly support him anywhere.”

In Cristian Tudor Popescu's opinion, Prime Minister Bolojan should go ahead with his program despite PSD's threats to leave the government. He believes that the scenario of early elections would be “nonsensical” in the current context.

“Either the PSD, when it introduces a no-confidence motion, chooses to continue governing with AUR and assumes all the consequences of such a gesture, or does it want early elections? Well, if it does not want with AUR, then it will end up again in the same formula as it is now. There is no way it could be in any other combination. Early elections are meaningless,” concluded CTP.
