Norilsk elected mayor under new rules

Today at the session Norilsk City Council deputies ofDmitry Karasev, a member of the United Russia party, was unanimously elected city leader. This was reported by First Deputy Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Sergei Ponomarenko.
The election of the head of the city for the next 5 years took place in a new way: due to changes in federal and regional laws, candidates for this post are now proposed by the governor of the region (previously, candidates were self-nominated). In accordance with the established procedure, the head of the region presented two candidates to the Norilsk City Council – Dmitry Karasev and Roman Serbin. The first one won.
Dmitry Karasev is 44 years old. He was born in Norilsk, where he worked as a deputy for several years, and since January 26, 2021 served as mayor of the city.
