Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov launched a scathing attack on the European Union leadership on Sunday, saying that Moscow will completely ignore dialogue with the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, according to Reuters.
“How can you discuss anything with Kaja Kallas? We will never discuss anything with her, nor will the Americans discuss anything with her, and that is obvious. What can we do? We just have to wait until she leaves,” Dmitry Peskov said on state television in comments published on Sunday.
He also said that the current European politicians, whom he considers weak, will not be able to oppose the American President Donald Trump or the important changes taking place in the world, reports EFE, quoted by Reuters.
“They are incapable of resisting Trump's pressure,” claimed Peskov who pointed out that the “dramatic changes” taking place lately are a consequence of the “double standards” and “hypocrisy” that “prevailed in Europe for many decades.”
“Unfortunately, they are the product of the weak generation of politicians now in power in Europe,” the Russian official continued.
He cited as an example the reaction of Europeans when Trump made public his conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Davos Forum in Switzerland this week. “Very interesting. All the Europeans just got angry. But when Macron made the conversation with Putin public, nobody got angry anymore,” Peskov said.
Trump “defends his interests”
The Kremlin spokesman also spoke about Donald Trump. He stated that the methods used by the leader of the White House do not correspond “entirely” to the multipolar order that Russia has been promoting for years, because the American leader likes to impose the law of the strongest and expects his opponents to “bow their heads”, which Russia has no intention of doing, according to Agerpres.
“Trump is an experienced politician who builds his approach on the principles of the business world, a tough and ruthless world. And he defends his interests, of course, first and foremost the interests of his country,” he said.
Peskov also announced that the Russian military is closely monitoring and analyzing President Donald Trump's plan for a global defensive shield. He questioned its goals, asking, “What kind of dome will it be? What threats will it be designed against?”
What he said about the Abu Dhabi peace talks
In the context of recent peace negotiations in the United Arab Emirates, Peskov reaffirmed Russia's firm position: the withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the entire territory of Donbass is a “very important condition” for any ceasefire agreement.
While he avoided commenting on the technical details of the proposals recently discussed in Abu Dhabi, Peskov noted that the mediation efforts of Trump's team are considered “effective.”
