Nurses at the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky maternity hospital were accused of infecting a seven-month-old child with HIV. The mother claims that the employees mixed up the bottles and fed the newborn the milk of an infected mother.
The baby was born prematurely, at 32 weeks – she was placed in a special box, bottle-fed, and her mother was not allowed in. But even at the time of registration, they warned: there are mothers with HIV in the department.
This fall, the baby was sent to Moscow for surgery to remove a benign vascular tumor that she had since birth. While preparing for the trip, it turned out that the baby had HIV. The parents are sure that the child was infected in the maternity hospital, because both mom and dad are healthy. Most likely, with the same mother's milk – in a hurry, mixing up the bottles, because they were stored in the same refrigerator. Now the prosecutor's office and the Ministry of Health are looking into the case. A criminal case has been opened.
