Ciprian Ciucu, mayor of the Capital and first vice-president of the PNL, defended the liberal Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and said that the party risks losing its credibility at the national level if it lets the PSD “dictate” to stay in government.

Asked on Sunday evening on Antena 3 about the internal referendum announced by the PSD regarding the possibility of leaving the government and about the possibility of the social democrats asking for a change of prime minister, Ciucu said: “Forget it, because they will throw the country into economic instability and everything worked this year will be lost. Forget it!”.

“First and foremost, I thought they were serious people – when they sign something, they stick to that signature. They signed a protocol, there is a rotation. Is it difficult for them to make political commitments for short periods of time? We are not talking about 10 years, we are not talking about five years, we are talking about three years – a year and a half National Liberal Party (gives the prime minister, no), after which PSD”, he added.

The first vice-president of the PNL suggested that there are people in his party who would rather stay “in the shadow of the PSD” than to leave the government.

“Let the PSD not imagine that the PNL is still as stupid as it may have been in the past, in which decisions for the PNL should be taken by the PSD (…). I am referring rather to the recent past, before Bolojan (…). If my colleagues believe that it is better to stay in the PSD and dictate to us PSD or to sell ourselves in order to stay in government for another year, or things like that… We lose our credibility at the national level”, warned the liberal.

“I don't want to name them (…), but they may know each other,” he added.

The PNL Bucharest leader said that the party “must find its soul”.

“And he found his soul after Ilie Bolojan came. He did what he had to do with dignity,” Ciucu also declared.
