WWII veteran Alexander Matveev celebrated his 100th birthday in Krasnoyarsk

In Krasnoyarsk, Great Patriotic War veteran Alexander Fomich Matveev celebrated his 100th birthday. Governor Mikhail Kotyukov congratulated the front-line soldier on the holiday.

Alexander Matveev was born in the village of Tiny, Nizhneingashsky district. After seven years of school, he completed a tractor driving course to help his family and was appointed foreman of a tractor detachment. In 1943 he was drafted into the Soviet army. Alexander Fomich served as a mechanic near the border with China. He drove a variety of equipment: from GAZ to an artillery tractor.

When the war with Japan began, the regiment was transported across the Amur. In one of the battles, Alexander Matveev was wounded by a mine fragment, but did not go to the hospital and stayed to carry ammunition. The veteran was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, II degree, and the medals “For Military Merit” and “For Victory over Japan.”

After the war, he worked as a garage mechanic, at a timber industry enterprise, and as the head of a logging enterprise. For more than a quarter of a century he was chairman of the veterans council of the Tinsky village council. Raised three children, and is now raising great-great-grandchildren

Mikhail Kotyukov wished Alexander Fomich good health and conveyed congratulations from Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“We had a warm conversation with the front-line soldier and his family. The generation of winners, their front-line and working life is always an example of perseverance, courage and correct values ​​for all of us,” the governor spoke about the meeting with the veteran on social networks.
