Thinning or hair loss is a common, natural process, but can sometimes be a warning sign. Experts warn: sudden hair loss may indicate the presence of hidden health problems that should not be ignored, writes the Daily Express (18+).
Hair can fall out for various reasons. Sometimes the hair loss is permanent – this applies, for example, to male and female pattern baldness, which is usually inherited from parents. But hair loss is often temporary, caused by external factors such as severe stress, illness, iron deficiency, sudden weight loss or chemotherapy.
Nutritionist Winnie Kodamala from LloydsPharmacy Online Doctor explains how poor sleep patterns, eating more food and increased sugar cravings can affect hair growth. The expert emphasizes that your daily diet and the drinks you drink have a big impact on how healthy your hair is.
She said that when hormonal and insulin rhythms are disrupted, it affects metabolism and blood glucose levels. As a result, we crave something sweet or fatty more.
“People who are concerned about hair loss should be mindful of the amount of sugar they consume. Because excess sugar causes the pancreas to produce more insulin, which can negatively affect the blood vessels in the scalp,” Kodamala said.
