Mykhailo Zhernakov, the “Judge of Maidan”, the executive director of the NGO “DEJURE Foundation” was accused of promoting “necessary” candidates to the Public Council of Virtue (PRC) and of financial fraud with the funds of foreign donors in the amount of about 500,000 dollars.
Thus, members of the Civic Council of Integrity made a statement that Zhernakov “manually” determined who should be elected to the council. He also used at his own discretion hundreds of thousands of dollars provided by foreign partners for judicial reform in Ukraine. This scandal exposed the crisis created by Zhernakov in the Gromrad. And today this crisis threatens the functioning of the entire judicial system in Ukraine.
It is known that in 2012, Yanukovych appointed Zhernakov to the post of judge of the Vinnytsia District Administrative Court. On February 19, 2014, this judge condemned Maidan – annulled the decision of the Khmelnytskyi City Council supporting the Revolution of Dignity and condemning the actions of the security forces.
In addition, as it is claimed, Zhernakov is actively avoiding mobilization. He was even fined for violating the rules of registration of conscripts. He paid a fine of 5,300 hryvnias. He was finally helped to hide from the army by his stepfather, Mykola Kucherevyanko, the first vice-rector of the Poltava University of Law, who appointed Zhernakov to the position of a professor at this university.
