Ousmane Dembele's (28-year-old) future at Paris Saint-Germain is in doubt, despite the huge status the French forward has acquired in recent seasons. The president of the Parisian club, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, delivered a firm message that sounded like a clear warning to the star of the team: “at PSG, no one is more important than the club.”

Although Dembele's contract only expires in June 2028, the management of the French champions have already started talks to extend and review the deal. However, the negotiations are far from an agreement, especially due to the financial claims of the French international, current Ballon d'Or winner.

Huge claims, harsh reaction from the president: “Everybody knows it”

According to the media in France, Dembele would request a salary of around 60 million euros per season, an amount considered excessive by PSG officials. In this context, Al-Khelaïfi intervened publicly, in a statement given to Canal+:

We have a salary cap. No one is above the club. Everyone knows this and must respect it. Not at any cost.”

At the same time, the PSG boss wanted to emphasize the excellent relationship he has with the player:

Ousmane is a club legend. I love him as a player and as a person. He is someone extraordinary.”

PSG strategy: no high wages

According to L'Équipe, the Frenchman has been pushing for a substantial pay rise for months, immediately after winning the Ballon d'Or. However, neither sporting director Luis Campos nor the Qatari shareholders are willing to accept these terms.

PSG intends to apply the same policy used recently in other contract extensions:

The club refuses contracts with unlimited incomes, in order not to destabilize the salary structure, notes the quoted source.
