Mikel Arteta (43 years old), Arsenal's coach, was delighted the victory achieved by the “gunners” away to Inter, score 3-1, in the 7th stage of the Champions League group, declaring at the end that he had beaten “one of the best teams in Europe”.
Thanks to the success in Italy, Arsenal remains the leader in the Champions League group, being the only team with 7 wins from as many matches. On the other hand, Cristi Chivu's Inter are in 9th place at the moment with 12 points, but may be overtaken by several teams depending on Wednesday night's results.
Mikel Arteta, ecstatic after the victory with Inter: “We beat one of the best teams in Europe”
“I'm proud of the team. Before the game, we discussed that we have to play at a really high level and without a doubt we did. We were at a completely different level and to achieve that at San Siro against one of the best teams in Europe is something special.
We had to be better than Inter. They control the game very well and we knew we would have to do that through the changes as well.
Gabriel Jesus is an incredible footballer. The more important the match, the more confident he feels. Fully deserving of the man of the match award.
Gyokeres made a big contribution. The match played out in a way that suited him. He had two opportunities, managing to materialize one of them. He is already starting to find consistency in his game,” said Mikel Arteta, according to sportal.bg.
Gabriel Jesus opened the scoring in the 10th minute for Arsenal but Inter equalized just 8 minutes later after an unstoppable shot from Petar Sucic.
Jesus signed the “double” in the 31st minute, and the table was closed by Viktor Gyokeres in the 84th minute.
Inter will play the last match of the group away to Borussia Dortmund, while Arsenal will receive the visit of Kairat Almaty.
