PSD leader Sorin Grindeanu said on Tuesday in Gândul that President Nicușor Dan had to go to the World Economic Forum in Davos, in Switzerland, because on the international agenda “there are things we cannot run away from”.

The Social Democrat says the head of state made “a mistake” when he chose not to attend the event in Switzerland.

“I don't hide from saying it (…). We had to be there. On the international agenda, at this moment, there are enough points to which Romania also needs to find answers, that we are talking about this policy and the topic related to Greenland, which is on the agenda, that we are talking about Mercosur, that we are talking about that peace committee proposed by President Trump, these are things we cannot run away from,” Grindeanu said.

The presidential advisor for national security Marius Lazurca declared on Sunday evening on Antena 3 that Nicușor Dan will not participate in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos this week, as the agenda of a president “is under siege by emergencies, crises and priorities”.

On Tuesday, at Gândul, Sorin Grindeanu also said that he expected “a decision to be made” also regarding the invitation received by Romania to be part of the “Peace Council”, the body announced by American President Donald Trump to oversee the cease-fire in Gaza, but which, according to The New York Times, could also be involved in other conflicts around the globe.

“I understand that a proposal was sent by the Trump administration to Romania, to President Nicușor Dan. Sir, there is no state to think about, it's 'yes'. We don't sit here to think. Who is the security provider for Romania at this moment? Don't be upset. It's the United States of America. There are no question marks and anything else here. It's a clear 'yes'”, the PSD leader concluded.
