Lukashenko noted that Belarus is ready to become a co-founder of this council.
At the same time, he called “a complete lie” the reports that to join the Peace Council one must contribute $1 billion.
“You just need to read the document. You don’t need any money,” Lukashenko claims.
According to him, for the first three years you can participate in this organization as a founder for free.
“But if in three years you still want to not be elected, invited or appointed there, pay a billion dollars, and in three years continue to work. A billion is needed if you want to work in three years,” said Lukashenko. “But there is another condition. If you cooperate, work well in the name of peace, then you can continue to work without a billion. I focus on the second.”
The politician added that “you need experience” and “opportunities to work in this Council” of Trump’s world.
“Maybe we will help something in Ukraine, discuss it somehow and advance peace, we will be able to bring it closer and influence the Ukrainian leadership. This is what fascinates me most. And not that we will greatly help Gaza there,” Lukashenko pointed out.
Context
Trump has invited countries that want a permanent seat on the Gaza Peace Council to contribute at least $1 billion. Critics fear that the US president is trying to create an alternative to the UN and concentrate control over finances and decisions in one hand.
Bloomberg wrote that Trump invited the leaders of Argentina, Canada and several European countries to participate in the council, and has already formed the first executive team, which includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Representative for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, son-in-law of the head of the White House Jared Kushner and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The Financial Times reports that Trump wants to create the same “peace council” for Ukraine. The group will include representatives from Ukraine, Europe, NATO and the aggressor country Russia, who will monitor and guarantee the implementation of a potential peace agreement.
On January 19, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin had received an invitation from Trump to join the Peace Council on Gaza. According to him, Moscow is now studying the details of the initiative and is awaiting contacts with the United States to clarify the terms of participation.
The media wrote that France rejected Trump's invitation to join the Gaza Peace Council.
