“The number of victims cannot be confirmed.” Trains derail in Spain, killing and injuring dozens of people

The incident happened in the city of Adamuz in the province of Cordoba.

It is reported that the last three carriages of a train traveling from Malaga to Madrid, carrying 317 people, derailed first.

They drove onto the tracks in the opposite direction, along which a train was moving at that time; as a result of the collision, it also derailed.

The force of the collision was “like an earthquake,” said an RNE journalist who was on the train at the time of the accident.

Video from the crash site showed at least one carriage or locomotive overturned after the collision.

“The latest information received is very serious,” Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente wrote in X. “The last carriages of the Iryo train, heading towards Madrid, derailed and entered the oncoming track on which a Renfe train was moving towards Huelva at that moment. The collision was horrific and resulted in the first two carriages of the Renfe train being thrown aside by the force of the impact. The number of casualties cannot be confirmed at this time.”
