Will Carrefour's assets end up in the hands of the state? The Ministry responds to the appeal of farmers


In September, the media reported that Carrefour had started the process of selling approximately 800 stores in Poland and 40 shopping centers. The Ministry of Agriculture then recommended that MAP take over the network, arguing that it would be a step towards building its own supply chains. In turn, the head of MAP, Wojciech Balczun, emphasized that the ministry's priority remains the rehabilitation of KGS and improvement of its financial results.

In response to the appeal of the National Council of Agricultural Chambers, Deputy Minister of State Assets, Grzegorz Wrona, emphasized that responsibility for investment decisions rests with the company's management board.
“All decisions regarding the management of companies' affairs, including those related to initiating investment projects, are made by the management of the given entities, which bears full responsibility for them,” he wrote. As he added, KGS, as a commercial law entity, must consider such projects “based on economic calculation”.

The deputy minister also explained that the minister of state assets there are no tools to directly influence the company's current operationsk nor to interfere in the decisions of their statutory bodies. This means that even political recommendations do not determine the direction of the National Food Group's activities.
