Waves cut the Volgoneft-212 tanker in half off the coast of Kerch. Which transported 4k tons of fuel oil. There were 13 crew members at sea. The ship is rapidly sinking.
According to eyewitnesses, this is the second time that a cargo ship of the Kama Shipping company sinks due to a hull failure. The previous one was the Volgoneft-139 tanker – it sank under water in a few minutes. In both cases, the waves crashed into the hull and made a hole, then a crack appeared, the tanker literally split into two sides and sank.
A rescue operation is currently underway in the water area. A tugboat has arrived at the crash site and is trying to lift sailors aboard. As Mash learned, Volgoneft-212 was built 55 years ago. She was at first an ordinary tanker, and in the 1990s she was shortened to river-sea standards. They did everything in a hurry, something like this: they cut out the center, threw it away, and then welded the stern and bow, forming a huge seam in the middle. Today this seam “broke apart” after a powerful wave hit.
