The trend for traveling to small towns for New Year and Christmas in Russia is gaining momentum. Demand has increased by 70% compared to 2023. And the share among all directions – from 7.6% to 9.5%.
According to the Center for the Study of Small Towns and Yandex Travel, people mostly choose nature: the sea (more often), mountains (less often) and so on.
Many destinations have become more popular over the year. For example, Shuya (Ivanovo region) – in the top cities it jumped 66 positions ahead. Together with it, Lodeynoye Pole in the Leningrad region (+35 positions) and the Crimean Alupka (+29 positions).
They now plan such holidays in advance too. Judging by the figures, 35% of trips are already planned by the end of November. In December there will be another +40%, and only 25% during the holidays. People most often go on vacation from cities with a population of over a million (50–60%). They look at the snow, the sun and the real Russian winter.
